Our parish, with two church buildings, is part of a team ministry which includes:
St. Agatha, Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, St. James, Sotwell and St. Mary Magdalene, Crowmarsh Gifford. (St. Peter's Church is used only for concerts at the moment, apart from one service a year) There is a map showing all the churches on 'A church near you' (opens in a new window).
We seek to be one congregation made up of the three distinct parishes, worshipping in different ways but doing as much as possible together, including marriage preparation, baptism preparation and offering Emmaus courses. We have regular team services and clergy exchanges. Our team is served by two members of the clergy, Revd David Rice and Revd Jeremy Goulston.
The Team Day Report looked at the pastoral needs of the parish, what pastoral work was being done by whom and what pastoral gifts are available in the parishes. The aim of the Wallingford Team’s Pastoral Group was defined as “To better use, and further develop, the gifts and talents of people across the Team in order to support and serve the community”. To this end, five objectives were proposed:
(i) To establish a directory of talents (ii) To give listening time for people (iii) To form caring groups (iv) To use church buildings as community resources (v) To welcome people
We have since set up the Pastoral Group, and hope that newcomers to our churches are made welcome!
